Hello Everyone,
Ashlee Lingle and I will be participating in this blogging session TOGETHER.
That means that TEEL 340 VB (Ashlee Lingle) students as well as TEEL 340 VC (Kevin Splichal) students will be blogging in this site.
This will enable all of us to collaborate and share thoughts and experiences.
This is the first time we will be using Blogger so if you have any suggestions or ways to improve our blog, let us know.
Sincerely, Kevin and Ashlee
I am like Cassie, just found this place! The way I see respect and discipline is as follows. It is not possible to do one and not the other. If a teacher has the discipline on not just the rules but the way she teaches. She will gain the respect of her students when they believe in her ability to teach. Establishing the rules is important but following through on the discipline establishes the respect. As mentioned in the book, the first day is important to both concepts.
ReplyDeleteRespect and Discipline
ReplyDeleteBecause Adults, teachers, are viewed as role models for young people, school community and society in general hold teachers to a higher standard of conduct. Discipline and Respect have to go together
Respect and Discipline,
ReplyDeleteI view respect and discipline just as the other students, the go together because no student will respect you if you don't discipline the same way every time they discipline. Following through on the discipline establishes the respect. As mentioned in the book, the first day is important to this concept as stated earlier by Cristina.
My favorite teacher was in high school. She was the theatre director and also taught the fine arts classes. She had hardly had any kids miss behave and was the most respected teacher in the building. She was open, and treated students with the golden rule." Treat others the way you would like to be treated". Students wanted to take her classes and when you walked in, you were notified of expectations. Her motto was "No hate in room 508". She was there for her students and created life long bonds. I still keep in touch with her. If you got in trouble in her class, the students would actually feel bad for making her mad. She saw the good in every student, did not judge them for previous mistakes, stereotype, and held no grudges. She inspired me, and was one teacher who opened my eyes to this profession.
ReplyDeleteThank you for also the help on getting this done. I needed to download firefox. It did not work with explorer.
ReplyDeleteRespect and Discipline in my opinion go hand in hand. If your students do not respect you they will not follow along when you are disciplining them. They will treat it as a joke. When students are being disciplined if they respect their teacher they will be more likely to take the punishment and respect the teacher more for it. Although the teacher may not realize it, the students will respect them more when they have rules and consequences. Instead of just having chaos.
ReplyDeleteDiscipline and respect for the teacher must be maintained in order for there to be effective learning for the students. Teachers can not teach properly if they are continually dealing with unruly students.
ReplyDeleteDiscipline is a daily part of the teacher’s and students’ life. Teachers spend time creating and teaching rules and procedures but they save time by reducing bad behavior.
